Each of us has to survey papers in the IEEE Explore Database related to our thesis topics as early as possible. We need to make a comparison with these previous works in our thesis.

Without having this mentality as early as possible, while summarizing/recording your findings as a file (WORD or EXCEL), you will put yourself in a PANIC zone when preparing your oral defense material.

Try to answer by yourself:
How is your approach different from the previous works?
Why do we need a new approach as proposed in your thesis?
Sometimes, we can do a qualitative comparison.
But it would be even better to present some quantitative comparison.
